Fruity Friday!

I don't believe it can rain much more! It seems to go on and on and on. Apparently the wettest January ever. Let's hope that February is better. For one thing brighter weather would help me with my food. I've said before, cold, dismal weather makes me want comfort food. So, I have surprised myself with the amount of fruit I have eaten today. Besides the fruit at meal times, I've munched on a pear, an orange, plums, banana and a nectarine. Not bad going, I think.

So...... A pretty easy breakfast. Needs must when you have hardly a minute to spare.

I sat through a 3+ hours meeting before I could get to lunch. Thankfully it was easy to grab when I got back to my office. No fuss packed lunch! HEb with the crispbreads and half my HEa = Laughing Cow!

Got home from work cold, tired and wet tonight. I resisted tea and biscuits, deciding on hot black currant to soothe the chills. I have found that cake and biscuits don't really go with hot black currant so lately it has been my drink of choice when I get home. I don't pick when I am cooking dinner either. Tonight was a big bowl of Spag Bol followed by .......... Yet more fruit!

Now I am sitting here listening to the lashing rain and big blustery gusts of wind. Tonight is definitely one for hot chocolate (other half of my HEa) and I'll treat myself to a Hi Fi bar (6syns). The 6 Nations starts tomorrow so I need to plan my weekend or I will resort to chocolate before Sunday evening!!!!

How easy would a slip up be?

In a rush this morning - meeting after meeting- so before I realised it was noon and I hadn't had breakfast! Fell back on a trusty banana I am afraid. Don't think you need a photo of that!!!

I did eat lunch slightly earlier today than I have been. As I have said before, I don't usually eat bread, but I did today. I like to be unpredictable even if it is only about bread! A bit of a 'needs must' type of meal, but if I am going to try to do this properly I need to eat. The pouring rain makes me feel like eating comfort food and stodge. Salad days seem very far away right now. It just doesn't seem right eating cold food, does it?

Just about half a HEa there with 2 laughing Cows! HEb covered by the bread.

This week it seems to be easier not to want to pick between meals. Maybe I am busier than normal, but I like to think I am retraining myself! Here's hoping.

I am not someone who chooses fish in a restaurant even when I am abroad, but I do enjoy smoked haddock. Dinner was soooooo good therefore! Lots of vegetables and fruit. I did add a meringue nest as an afterthought so 2.5 syns.

Another testing time tonight - someone spoiling for an argument and being very difficult. A classic time to reward myself with sweet things. So far, so good though. Will definitely have a Curly Wurly (6syns)- I am being nice to myself. A milky coffee is on the cards too! (Rest of HEa)

Well done me! Not a bad day though the start could have thrown me and so could the end!!!

Before and somewhat after

In celebration of my 'kick start' (hopefully!) this week, I thought  before and somewhat after photos might spur me on a little more!

Before..........

and

Getting there! (next time I may brave full shots!)

Result!

Hey...... Weigh in tonight and I lost 2lbs! Thank you blog (and of course SW!). Just goes to show what you can do if you focus. Need to do it again this week too!

Late/ish breakfast again today but the fruit and yoghurt was yummy!

I'm afraid I completely forgot to photograph my lunch so you will have to take my word for it that I had 5 bean salad with ham! Followed that with some fruit. It seems strange that since blogging and photographing what I eat I don't seem to want to snack between meals. If I fancied something this week then I had a black coffee or munched on fruit. Long may it last.

Got home late from class tonight. That's usually a cue for me to make bad choices, but look.........

I did well, yes?!

Now just have my milky drink before bed (2syns plus half my HEa). The other half was my cheese on the jacket potato. Oh yes ..... HEb today was my Hi -Fi bar at class( see Shelley I did remember!!)

Before I go..... Happy 70th for tomorrow Pauline. Haven't yet eaten the wonderful cup cake (welldone Gill!) in celebration, but as I have only had 2 syns today I am going to guess that it can't be any more than 13 syns and have it with my drink. Yum!

And another one just like it!

Yesterday was difficult but today was worse! Now I am sometimes in danger of 'stress eating'. I tell myself I don't do it, but I know I do! I think of  food as a reward of some kind. The pattern is usually - too busy to eat, go on for ages with nothing until I realise/stop/feel dizzy, then eat what I may have planned but reward myself with 'extras'.

Today I didn't get breakfast until mid morning. Managed to have what I planned, except for all the fruit!

The day then took off and I had no time for lunch until 4.30 pm. Bad! I just knew it - half heartedly ate what I had prepared (left over beef curry with loads of peas)  but then rewarded myself with biscuits! Bad, bad bad! I've syned them - 10 syns :(

By the time I got to dinner I was struggling. Knew I had to eat though or later tonight I will be starving and will eat rubbish. So, dinner made and enjoyed in the end. Roast chicken, potatoes and some really tasty Brussels tops. Followed by strawberries!

No Curly Wurly for me tonight. Crispbreads at breakfast = HEb and milky drink tonight = HEa. As the week goes on I struggle. Think that is because I am more tired. I need a loss at SW tomorrow or I will be so disappointed. Watch this space!

One of those days

A quick blog this evening as today has been one of those days.  I didn't get to do most of what I had planned as something urgent came along which just had to be done. Of course, on such days everything that had been planned, including meals, seems to be disrupted! Breakfast was very late and thrown together. (Being diabetic it is important that I eat so sometimes it's a question of eat whatever there is that is ok for me!) did gave my HEb though.

Lunch was even later - in fact late afternoon.  Potato and bacon salad was delicious though, despite the fact that I used turkey bacon! Ate fruit and yoghurt too but I fell by the wayside and had 2 custard creams. Accordingly I am declaring them as syns - total = 6 syns!

Fortunately I had prepared dinner last night so no excuses not to eat properly! Beef curry was lovely! Meant to make more veg, but it was full of peppers and squash so maybe got away with a third super free, especially as I also ate fruit. Followed up with yoghurt and a meringue (2.5 syns).

Have now indulged myself with a Curly Wurly (6syns). No HEa today apart from a very small amount of milk in my coffee this morning. Meant to have a milky drink again tonight but just cannot be bothered.

Lunch with friends

Such a dismal day today as far as the weather goes. We were out for lunch which worried me a little. Not because I didn't want to go - far from it. More that I couldn't be in complete control. As it turned out, I did ok. I am never tempted by alcohol so no syns wasted on that! I don't like to be awkward when someone else is cooking, but this friend knows me so well so lunch was not a big hurdle.

I decided to eat a good breakfast to make sure I wasn't starving.

I really didn't think I could take a photo of lunch so you will have to take my word for it that I didn't overdo it - roast lamb and vegetables. I offered to take a pudding, so made SW Eton mess ( 2 syns per portion for the meringue).

Although I really didn't feel like it when I got home, I did manage to make lunch and dinner for tomorrow, so I am well prepared! Dinner tonight was egg mayonnaise (1 syn) and crispbreads spread with some Low Low (part if my HEa). Followed that with fruit and one of those Nak'd bars I mentioned yesterday (6.5 syns). Have to say I was not impressed so they will probably find their way to the back of the fridge. Would much rather have a Curly Wurly!!!

Just my milky drink now before bed (2 syns). And yes, I did remember my promise yesterday.....  Drink mire water! Still not enough but better than the day before!

It's all about the food

Saturday is always about food - planning for the week, looking through recipe books, writing lists and then shopping. I seem to take the same route around the supermarket and buy virtually the same things. It's an effort to ignore the special offers and the BOGOFs. I tussle with myself; why get two when I didn't want one in the first place? I am better at ignoring the danger aisles - cakes, biscuits, sweets, bread and CHEESE. Cheese is a particular weakness I am afraid.

Today I made life harder for myself. We went off and did the normal shopping fairly speedily, then came home to put it all away. It was only when I was doing this that I remembered the desert I had promised to make for lunch at my friend's tomorrow! 0% yoghurt - check, Strawberries - check. Meringues - oh no! So off I set for  an alternative supermarket, navigating my way around an unknown store with no idea where meringues could be found. I came home with more than the meringues, but nothing I shouldn't really have except for some Nak'd bars, which appear to be 6.5 syns each. Oh well!

Meals today have been good on the whole. That is because they were planned,  and because I am not at work so could prepare them properly. I love eggs so the weekend is the time for a leisurely boiled egg, but no soldiers! Bread and I do not really agree so I try to stick to crispbreads. (HEb)

Now another favourite is jacket potato and beans. So for lunch it was sweet potato and beans with some yummy Low Low soft cheese (2.5 syns)

Having made a big bowl of ratatouille yesterday,  I just had to have more today! So this was what dinner looked like:

SW chips are so easy! 2 quorn sausages (2 syns) . I need to put some yoghurt on the fruit and I still have my milk (HEa) to use up with Highlights  tonight - a few more syns!

Reminder to self - I need to drink more - coffee, and soft drinks today. More water tomorrow!

Day 1 done!

Well, I've made it through the day! Managed not to have anything between meals except for black coffee and low cal blackcurrant. Lunch was prawn cocktail salad with thousand island dressing lite (1 syn) follwed by an orange.

Couldn't manage all of it ! I always crave something sweet after I eat a meal so I struggled a bit but stuck to my guns. Was quite full until I ate this evening. I adore jacket potatoes - they are real comfort food for me, so made ratatouille to go with it. Topped that off with 15g grams grated cheddar (half my HEa). After all that there was no way I could manage desert.

Anyway, still feeling full so I'm off to bed after a milky drink (other half of HEa plus 2 syns) and a peanut Hi-Fi (6syns).  A much better day for me but I need more fruit tomorrow.

forgot this........

Oh dear, not too good at this yet. Forgot the photo!

Breakfast!

I am never very imaginative with breakfast - just grab whatever I can find. Today banana on toast (2 slices of bread as my HEb), a wonderful 0% rhubarb yoghurt and a cinder toffee coffee. I have to say the coffee sounds much more exciting than it is. Have heard people talk about it and I am afraid I was disappointed! Oh well, I have a jar full to get through, unless visitors fancy a cup?

Humble beginnings

I've never blogged before but have been enthused by others who do. So............what the heck. I might as well give it a go and see if it helps me to shed the pounds that I so desperately have been trying to over far too long for me to remember.

Maybe if I write down what I am eating for all the world to see it might help me not to 'lie' to myself about what I do consume (you know all those hidden calories that I deny indulging in!) It's easy isn't it to tell the world that you have 'ben good' and stuck to your diet plan. All the while you omit to mention the extras that you never noted down - the bit of cheese to 'straighten' the block when you have used some; the last bit of ice cream in the tub; the last biscuit on the plate; the couple of sweets from the staff room at work. Gulity!

Well, inspired by other bloggers I am going to give this a go. If I get it wrong sometimes then I only have myself to blame, but at least I might be honest about it!

Here goes.
